Megumi was a girlfriend of Shunichi Ogino, a boxer whom she had helped to rehabilitate after his car accident. Shunichi was jogging in the park accompanied by Megumi on her bicycle in the evening. However, chain of Megumi's bicycle came off, so Shunichi decided to do one lap without her, to give her time to repair it. Shortly after that he was shot, and died in her arms after telling his murderer's name, Inagaki, to Megumi.

Act 1[]

Megumi wanted to take revenge on Inagaki by killing him, and she decided to use City Hunter's services. She left a "XYZ" note on the chalkboard bulletin board, which was discovered by Hideyuki Makimura. Meanwhile, Ryo suffered from Shunichi's murder as well because Ryo placed his bet on Shunichi. Hideyuki informs Ryo about a new job, which is connected to Shunichi's murder.

Hideyuki and Ryo go to the park, and Ryo takes his time to observe some girls who play tennis (and gets hit by the tennis racket in the process). They discreetly observe Megumi laying some flowers to the place where Shunichi was killed.

In the evening, Megumi is shown at her home suffering from pain and taking her medicine to ease it. She takes a shower, and after it she in a blue bath towel goes to the living room and sits down on sofa. There's a table before a sofa with a bottle with alcohol and an empty glass on it. Megumi pours some alcohol to the glass, and attempts to drink. Suddenly she gets stopped by Ryo's words, who says "Just don't drink too much, Doctor", and he shows himself, appearing behind sofa's back, which surprises Megumi. Ryo jokingly notices that his face "still hasn't returned to normal". Megumi is not impressed by that, and she threatens him that she'll scream. Ryo answers that his face needs rehabilitation like Ogino, and tells her that he is a "XYZ" sweeper, a man who was hired by her. He also apologized for frightening her, and says that it's his policy to get to know a client before taking a job. He stares at Megumi and tells her that she'll catch a cold, and gets slapped by slipper for his sincerity.

Megumi, now dressed in a pink robe, tells Ryo that Inagaki was the one who killed Shunichi, because Shunichi himself said so before he died. She also says that Shunichi got many threatening calls before he was killed, and that the accident before was also set up. Megumi says that the title was Ogino's dream, and that Inagaki is just a "rabid dog driven mad by envy". Ryo says that he can't forgive Inagaki for that, and asks Megumi if this a reason for her wish to kill Inagaki. Suddenly Megumi is struck with pain, and she takes a pile of pills. Ryo says that he understands her feelings, but he would leave this matter in the hands of police. He warns Megumi that she'll breaking the law, and that this is not something a gentle doctor like her should do. Megumi exclaims that she has not much time left. Ryo asks her to tell him more, but she brushes him off, telling that it's not his concern, and that he should leave her alone. Ryo says that drinking so much alcohol is not good for her, and leaves her apartment.

Ryo exits Megumi's apartment, and examines a pill he discreetly took from Megumi. He notices that she has pain "not only in her heart".

Ryo also asks Hideyuki if Megumi has a cancer, and Hideyuki confirms that. Hideyuki shows Ryo an insurance policy, and tells him that Megumi gave it to him as a compensation, which made her life their "closing fee". Ryo doesn't feel good about it, and Hideyuki notices to him, that he told Ryo to hear him out before taking a job. Ryo takes a policy from Hideyuki. Hideyuki tells Ryo that he can refuse, but Ryo answers him that they don't refuse to beautiful ladies. Ryo attempts to go to work, but Hideyuki stops him, and get women underwear collected by Ryo from his pocket (a running gag of the anime series).

In the evening Ryo observes jogging of champion Sanda, who is set to be Inagaki's opponent. Inagaki attacks Sanda, and takes him as hostage by threatening him with a knife. Inagaki tells Sanda that the latter should lose to Inagaki in a rigged match. Otherwise, he threatens to do bad things to Sanda's little daughter, and reminds him of Ogino's fate.
